We are really pleased to introduce some new straw working tools onto this site. They were previously made by Gordon Thwaites who has recently retired from making these items and has handed the reins over to Sandy Lindsay who will be making these tools for us. More tools will be added to the site in time and if there is anything you are interested in please e mail us and we will ask the maker.

This is a very useful tool for applying glue and positioning straw. It can also be used for embossing flattened straw

Straw Splitter and Smoother (Hindenburg)
This tool is a copy of the Swiss Halmenschaber. It is used to split and smooth straw. The blade’s point is inserted into the hollow stem of a straw and slit along its length. The flat edge of the blade is then used to smooth the straw

Straw Smoother
This tool can be used to smooth single split straws or larger sheets of flattened straws glued to a background. It will soften the straw and increase its flexibility. The natural sheen of the straw is enhanced.

Needle Holder and Needles
This solid wood needleholder has been shaped to fit into your hand comfortably. It has 5 needle holes spaced 6.3mm apart. The holder comes with 4 needles 9.5cm long. One of the needles has a slightly narrower eye to allow you to insert it into one of the needle holes as required for some Swiss Straw working techniques.
